Winners are crossing the finish line and results are going to be coming for the 2009 Marine Corps Marathon in Washington, DC. The 34th Marine Corps Marathon has more than 22,000 runners participating in this year's 26.2-mile race, which officially started at 8:02 am Sunday on the National Mall. The Marine Corps Marathon is run along a route that showcases the best of Arlington, VA and the nation’s capital.



The Marine Corps Marathon, also known as "The People's Marathon" is organized by the United States Marine Corps, and ranks as the fifth largest marathon in the United States and ninth largest in the world. Since the race began in 1976 more than 380,000 runners, military and civilian, have participated and crossed the finish line in the marathon. Runners from all walks of life have participated in "The People's Marathon", the world's largest marathon to not offer prize money.

Comcast SportsNet will break into regularly scheduled programming every 30 minutes with Marine Corps Marathon updates. After the race, Comcast SportsNet will have a number of post-race interviews. CSNWashington.com will catch all of the action live at finish line, where the there will be streaming video of the conclusion of the race. In addition, runners stories will be captured and featured on the website.

The excitement of finishing the MCM will be celebrated in the Finish
Festival in Rosslyn presented by Verizon Wireless from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. One of the sponsors is Michelob beer who will host the Michelob Beer Garden. Runners of legal age with ID the opportunity to sample a refreshing, ice cold ULTRA.
